Profile of Linda Hicks
Linda was born in Terang in Victoria's Western District.
She grew up spending a lot of time at her Grandparents farming property on the banks of Lake Keilambete and attended Noorat and The Sisters Primary Schools, followed by Terang High School during her education years.
Although Linda learnt embroidery and sewing during her schooling years, she only dabbled in cross stitch for many years as her Bagpipe playing life didn't allow much time for other hobbies.
In 1986 Linda married, travelled overseas for nearly a year and then made a new life in the bayside area of Melbourne. Living near the water has its advantages, but the views of Mt Noorat and Lake Keilambete are very much missed.
Whilst recovering from cancer in 1998-1999 many hours were spent doing cross stitch patterns. Then in 2000 Linda became aware of The Embroiderers Guild, Victoria. She subsequently became a member and then spent 6 years attending lots of classes to gain experience on various embroidery techniques.
Linda holds Intermediate Certificates in Hardanger, Blackwork, Canvaswork, Drawn Thread, Crewel, Stumpwork and Surface Stitchery, in additional to a Masterclass Certificate in Canvaswork. She has also completed a Masterclass in Metal Thread and Goldwork but due to a family illness at the time was unable to finish the required pieces to receive her Certificate.
Linda's favourite techniques are Canvaswork, Stumpwork, Goldwork and Ribbonwork. She also enjoys teaching various embroidery techniques, creating her own designs, and likes to combine various techniques into her designs.
